April Fool's - Year #5
April 25, 2009 -
Phoenix, AZ - The most popular theory about the origin of April
Fool’s Day involves the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century.
The theory goes like this: In 1564 France reformed its calendar, moving
the start of the year from the end of March to January 1. Those who
failed to keep up with the change, who stubbornly clung to the old
calendar system and continued to celebrate the New Year during the week
that fell between March 25th and April 1st, had jokes played on them.
Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs.
The
victims of this prank were thus called Poisson d’Avril, or April
Fish—which, to this day, remains the French term for April Fools—and so
the tradition was born. The origins of April Fool's Day may not be very
clear, but it seems safe to say that this eccentric festival celebrates
the 'Practical Joke' in it's many forms.
In the world of Scotto, ScottoBob, ScottoBobScotto,
Scott Platsky - April Fool's takes the form of
Web Sites based on a Burning Man
Theme...This is the fifth year I have created 04/01 web sites - With the
2009 additions that makes Eighteen (18) so far and
the ideas continue to flow for at least 5 more for 2010.
Wouldn't it be amazing if all of the services I have made fun of over
the years were actually available during Burning Man? Things like a
Cellular Phone Service, Beer Garden, Fire Safety Services, Fine Dining,
Playa Condos, Trash Dumping, Escort Services, Shade Erection, Event
Attendance, Legal Services, Gear Transportation, Pet Services, Olympic
Competition, Real Larry Visits, On-Playa Pharmacy, Power Grid. What a
different event it would be.
In the end I get a kick out of the Burning Man Parody thing, coming up
with the domain names and the creative outlet that is web design.
I hope you have enjoyed the 2009
sites as much as I did in creating them. Yes, you can count on
another round of April Fool's web sites, ala Scotto in 2010.
